The Ipswich Group of the Suffolk Family History Society will meet on Wednesday 5th November at 7:30 p.m.

They will welcome Timothy Easton with his intriguing talk “No Witches Here!”

The talk will be all about protective symbols in houses and barns and the concerns of the people of their times. These, symbols in centuries gone, and particularly in rural counties like Suffolk, were  often seen on beams around open hearth fireplaces in old Houses. Some could be elsewhere in the structure. These were put there as superstitious aids against plagues, house fires, lightning strikes and other unforeseen event. The talk is aptly staged just after Halloween.  This is a little known or understood practice – come along and find out more!!!

Venue: The Salvation Army Citadel, 558, Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, IP4 4PH. Easy Parking at the rear.
Date: Wednesday 5th November at 7:30 p.m.
Cost: £3 for Society members, £4 for non-members – pay on the door. No need to pre-book – just turn up and pay with cash please.
