Mid-Suffolk Light Railway

Mid Suffolk Light Railway – August 2024 Events

Mid Suffolk Light Railway – Suffolk’s award winning only standard gauge heritage railway.

Steam trains and added attractions every Sunday.

Mid-Suffolk Light Railway - logo

There will be steam train rides in genuine Victorian 4-wheel coaches. Plus the Mid- Suffolk Light Railway’s August programme has an added attraction every Sunday during the month.

18th August BMW & Royal Enfield Bike owners visit.
A great display of two-wheeled power and history for visitors whilst they enjoy the Middy’s attractions – as many rides as you like on the railway’s genuine 4-wheeled coaches, the tea room, real ale bar and restoration shed.

25th/26th August Model Mania & Hornby Collectors Days
Another favourite event at the Middy with displays of models of all sorts and sizes – not just trains. There will be boats, planes and road vehicles and, of course, examples of the late lamented Hornby and Dublo models.
This has become one of the Middy’s most popular events.

1st September Everything Goes – 4 locos in action.
For the last summer open day of 2024 we are staging a 4 loco movement day – 2 steam and 2 diesel. Locos on the move will be our Cockerill tram and the guest Andrew Barclay ‘Caledonia Works’ and our Ruston & Hornsby 165DS plus Fowler Shredded Wheat 0-4-0 shunter. If you haven’t seen them in action before, each one will be getting a good work out before we close for the summer.

Colour Run – Saturday 28 September

Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity are excited to announce a brand new event for 2024 – a Colour Run!

Choose to run, walk or jog the 1k or 5K route. Meet the Colour Bandits along the way to cover you in brightly coloured powder. As you cross the finish line in a rainbow of colour, you receive a celebratory sustainable finisher’s medal and snacks.

You will receive a free white t-shirt and sunglasses at the start line, so embrace all the colour of the day. The run is for all the family so the coloured powder is child-safe and environmentally friendly. Dogs are not permitted, so furry family members have to sit this one out.

Date: Saturday 28 September 2024
Time: 10am start
Location: Christchurch Park, Ipswich
Distance: 5km or 1km
Age: All ages welcome
