Railbus month at Mid-Suffolk Light Railway and Vintage Bus Day on 28th June

4th June 2026

Something completely different for the Middy.

During Sunday openings in June the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway (otherwise known as the Middy) will be running a diesel railbus service. The old Middy never had a single diesel loco of any sort running on its rails, but could the more modern and economic mode of transport have saved the line from closing? Maybe not, but it should be an interesting experience to ride the extended line to the new destination station, Aspall Halt. Aspall Halt is still under construction, but visitors will be able to alight to admire the delightful Suffolk countryside as served by the old railway.

And on the last Sunday, 28th June, it is also the Middy’s Vintage Bus Day. There will be a selection of road buses of a certain age on display, some of which will be offering rides around the local area.

Buses on both rail and road, never been seen before at Brockford!

All the Middy facilities will be open including The Museum, Tea Room, Restoration Shed, real ale bar and souvenir shop and visitors can ride the railbus as often as they like during their stay. The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway offers a fascinating picture of what life was like on and around a rural railway during the last century. It will be a great day out for families and rail fans alike.
