On Friday, 1st March, Martlesham Heath Aviation Society will be presenting:

The Kings and Giants of Rendlesham Forest

A talk by Bruce Macpherson, where he will present a fascinating insight into his career and adventures at RAF Woodbridge. He was based there in the 1980’s, as part of the United States Airforce 67th Air Rescue and Recovery Section.  The section was originally set up to recover American Astronauts after splashing down following Space missions, but it proved its worth.

Many Locals will probably remember the huge Jolly Green Giant Helicopter that was often see flying in the Ipswich area. This helicopter – with a C130 Hercules, acting as a Flying Tanker- enabled the helicopter to do Search and Rescue operations way out into the Atlantic and elsewhere.
