The Ipswich War Memorial Project will have three exhibitions displayed around Ipswich, during the period of Remembrance.
St. Margaret’s Church
The First World War memorial inside St. Margaret’s Church, Ipswich, remembers 115 men from this parish. The Project has 53 portraits of these men which, thanks to the kindness of the Reverend Sarah Geileskey, are on display around St. Margaret’s Church. The exhibition is on display until Monday, 17th November. It is open from 10:30 to 14:30 Monday to Saturday and from 12:30 to 14:30 Sundays.
There’s more information on Facebook.
Christchurch Park
On Saturday, 3rd May 1924, the war memorial and Cenotaph in Christchurch Park were unveiled and dedicated. One hundred years later, in May of this year, the Project displayed around the Cenotaph over 930 portraits of those remembered on the First, Second, and Post-1945 (plus 14 portraits from the Boer War). Over this coming Remembrance weekend (and thanks again to I.B.C.), the Project will once again display all our portraits around the Cenotaph.
Fields of Honour
On Monday, 11th November, at 11:00, the school children’s services will take place at the Cenotaph and the two Fields of Honour at Ipswich Old Cemetery. The Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and M.P. of Ipswich in attendance. This year, the Project have permission from the C.W.G.C. to display the portraits at the graves of those laid to rest at the two Fields of Honour.
The Ipswich War Memorial Project invite you to view these displays of portraits in Ipswich, to reflect and remember.
