A chance to double the value of contributions for the essential Carriage Shed

13th July 2026

The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway needs a carriage shed to protect their Victorian coaches.

The anticipated total cost is £100,000. £50,000 for the first stage, of installing a second siding and carrying out major earthworks. Then £50,000 for stage 2, building the actual shed.

They have received an incredibly generous offer from a great supporter of the Middy. He has offered to match-fund any donation to the Dovebrook Carriage Shed Appeal up to a total of £25,000.00. Therefore any contribution would be doubled and, if it can be gift aided, even better still.

The plan is to start the second siding in January 2027, but to do that they need to be sure funds are in place soon so that TES2000, the track laying contractors, can be booked in time. With this match funding offer making every pound worth two and even more with Gift Aid they have every chance of making this target date.

The railway now has four Victorian coaches, one of which, no.14 is believed to be the only existing vehicle to have run on the MSLR. All four are of mainly wooden construction and suffer constant damage from outdoor storage.

Match-funding your donation will speed the project to protect our unique coaching stock. Visit mslr.org.uk/dovebrook-carriage-shed-appeal to donate to this project.
