On 17^th September, EmT released their new album ‘Electrical Medicine’ from which ‘Intro’ is the first track.

EmT are Ema Walter and Tony Blue. They are an electronic duo from London, formed in 2014. They return to the techno-pop world with their second album “Electrical Medicine”. The album combines powerhouse singing from Ema and addictive melodic hooks covering all aspects of broader electronic and dance culture, with creative production again courtesy of Tim Dorney. The album ticks all the boxes to be a serious synth-pop anthem & floor filler of 2021 and has a harder and more serious edge than that of their début “Resolute”.

“Electrical Medicine” is published by Beautiful World music/Downtown music UK and was released on 17 September 2021 on all major streaming platforms.

Red Ant Band have recently released ‘In My Life’.

The Red Ant Band are from Norwich, and were established in 2014. They write and perform original music with a mix of Blues and Rock influence and have received airplay globally!

Sarah McQuaid’s new album ‘The St Buryan Sessions’ will be released in October and ‘Rabbit Hills is a track from that album.

Back in week 11, we listened to ‘Last Song’ which is the single that’s already been released from this album. But Sarah will be touring, and she will be St Peter’s by the Waterfront on Friday 22^nd October.

The album, ‘The St Buryan Sessions’ includes two previously unrecorded covers: the classic jazz standard “Autumn Leaves”, on which she demonstrates the full dynamic range of her lush, distinctive voice, and the one we just heard her cover of “Rabbit Hills”, written by her dear friend (and past producer), the late Michael Chapman.

‘Rabbit Hills’ was commissioned by Michael’s wife Andru as a gift for his 80th birthday and sees Sarah at the beautiful grand piano that resides in the church, her compelling, heartfelt delivery revealing the depth of her immersion in the rich imagery of Chapman’s evocative lyrics.

Sarah says, “I was absolutely devastated by the news that Michael has left this world. He was a real musical mentor to me. I wouldn’t have ever started playing electric guitar if he hadn’t handed me his Ibanez Artist and said ‘Play this.’ My heart goes out to Andru – she and Michael have both been such good friends to me. I can’t express how sad it makes me to know that I won’t see him again.”

The recording was filmed by Cornish filmmaker and director Mawgan Lewis of Purple Knif with the aid of Eden Sessions veteran camera operator John Crooks. The fruits of their work can be seen on Sarah’s YouTube channel. The channel also has Lewis’ 9-minute documentary “The Making Of The St Buryan Sessions”, featuring interviews and song snippets.

The Two Man Travelling Medicine Show released ‘Blindfold’ on September 24^th.

The Two Man Travelling Medicine Show is an eight piece Americana/Country/punk outfit. They are Dorset’s finest Folky-Americana-Country-Punk band and they’re back with ‘Blindfold’ the second single taken off their upcoming album ‘Going Nowhere Fast’. Originally written as a response to a fellow band member who didn’t like some lyrics that were put forward and soon morphed into a topical snapshot of general feeling during the summer of 2020. Ridiculously catchy and straight to the point. It’s paranoid, frustrated and very groovy.

Mario Frangoulis released ‘Blue Skies’ on 24th September.

Mario Frangoulis, international classical crossover tenor, actor, composer, and music producer has performed on some of the world’s greatest stages in popular West End musicals, in opera and classical theatre. Now he presents his 21st album ‘Blue Skies – An American Songbook’ featuring Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Donaldson, Berlin and takes a stroll through some of the great tunes of American musical history giving a sterling performance which was recorded live.

Mario states, “In music and in theatre, I must be flexible, adapting to what’s happening around me, and experimenting with new and unique combinations of music and acting skills—this also translates to my sense of personal style. Life is a mosaic of experiences that make up who we are—there is no one “right” way to do anything…everything I do has to do with my truth, my feelings and my identity”.

The release is to support education and the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans which provides need-based scholarships to students who have faced adversity in their lives, an Organization that Mario supports.

 

On 24^th September, Water’s Edge released their debut single ‘Call it Fate’.

Meath folk sister duo Water’s Edge are released their fantastic debut single ‘Call It Fate’ everywhere on September 24^th.

Twin sisters Katie and Aoife Lynch from Duleek in County Meath have both been singing since they could talk but it was only in 2013 when at the encouragement of family, friends and teachers, they began to sing and perform together as a musical duet. In 2017 they began busking in Dublin city and quickly built up a very strong, supportive following. On the strength of this support they released an EP entitled ‘Follow our Dream’ on CD which included 2 original tracks as well as some of their busking favourites. A love of song writing was born!

Already seasoned live performers having performed at Sports Against Racism, the Busker Fleadh and Whelan’s in Dublin to name a few. The girls have tried to keep busy, despite COVID, writing and recording more original material and have released a single called ‘At Night’ under the moniker of Katie and Aoife but are now very excited to grow into their name and release their first single as Water’s Edge.

Chris Wenner released ‘Could it Be’ on September 24^th

‘Could it be’ is a follow-on from ‘Back in my Valley’, which I played in Week 2 of this show, and ‘Lover 4 Lover’ which I played in Week 11! Once again Chris Wenner shares a beautiful song, where his talent to create peaceful moments of immediacy and intensity truly shines through.

The song tells a story about two people who are getting to know each other. It talks about the process of moving closer and slowly building the trust to be vulnerable in each other’s presence.  They find comfort and relief in the knowledge that they will tackle life as a team and can rely on the other’s support in the challenges that life throws at them.

Together with the well-established producer and profound musician Guido Craveiro, Chris Wenner doubles down on his mission to create story-like acoustic music. The two work together as a well-rehearsed team and interweave their best ideas to a musical carpet of handcrafted sounds.

The Autumn Killers released their new album, ‘Darkside’ on 24^th September from which this is the title track.

The Autumn Killers return with a completely new sound, new Drummer, and some banging tunes. 2020 was a terrible year for live music, but in the band’s case, they have got their heads down and created a completely new sound bringing together elements of Dance, Pop together with Hard Rock. Completely scrapping their original sound, the band feel that what they have created now is what the Autumn Killers were supposed to sound like from the start. The band also feel that the recruiting of Graeme Hoy on Drums has filled that missing piece.

The album Darkside was released on the 24th September which coincided with the release of the bands second single. The band hope to release around 5 singles from the album before heading back into the studio to record the follow up, of which they have already written over 5 songs for!

On September 24^th Gambo released ‘Drip’ which features Edem.

Gambo is an African musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist and investor. Born in Ghana, he completed his education at Legon Presbyterian Boys School, where his passion for music was ignited and his musical journey began. He went on to win the Ghana Teen Choice Award as well as being ranked in the top 5 upcoming African Acts in Spark Magazine.

Gambo now presents his new track and music video for ‘Drip’, featuring Edem. An anthem for Ghana’s youth, ‘Drip’ celebrates looking good no matter where you come from. Gambo says, “I wanted to show another perspective on Ghana. I feel most of the time Africa is portrayed only in connection with sadness and poverty, which is true in some cases, but not always. I hope my music will let the world know that we are a modern destination with a great lifestyle.”
