Lucia & The Best Boys released ‘Burning Castles’ on 2nd August.
Glasgow’s Lucia & The Best Boys shared their new single, ‘Burning Castles’ on August 2nd. It is the title-track from her forthcoming début album, which is due to be released on 29th September via Communion.
One of the first songs written for the album, ‘Burning Castles’ became a touchstone whilst recording at Black Bay Studio in the Outer Hebrides. Lucia explains, “I wrote Burning Castles about the onslaught of emotions that your body goes through when you receive bad news; that sudden and overwhelming weight that bears down on you when the news hits you.
I love making something sound soft and graceful when the meaning and the experience that I’m writing about is pretty much the opposite. That sort of juxtaposition of the music and the lyrics is something that I’m prone to doing, but I think that it always manages to capture the way that I really feel in a way that makes sense to me.”
‘Burning Castles’ is the début album that Lucia has been eager to make. With themes that span womanhood (‘Love Yourself, ‘Waiting On You’), misogyny in the music industry (‘When You Dress Up’), and the emotional whiplash of unhealthy love (‘So Sweet I Could Die’, ‘Haunt You Back’ and ‘Care’), the album unfurls like a secret diary reimagined with the benefit of hindsight and experience.

‘One More Tequila’ is from Tyron Benoit Band’s recently released album, ‘Waitin’ on Friday’.
Tyron Benoit is soul driven rock, spiked with a gallon of Louisiana Heat! The true soul of music is borne out of hardship. The toil of labour and survival, the pleasure and release of hard drinking and living, and the hardships of the human condition under the eyes of Heaven. All alternating between the wrath of judgment and the need for hope and grace.
This duality of the human condition is found among so very many of America’s greatest musicians, and it is no different with Tyron Benoit. From bawdy, hard-driving music, frequently punctuated by the distinct Louisiana stamp of dance-floor packing accordion. To tender songs about loss and life with the purr of an acoustic guitar, this is an artist that decidedly is Tyron Benoit.
The Tyron Benoit Band have a website, at tyronbenoitband.com, and are on YouTube, Facebook and Insta.
On 4th August, Midnight Miles released ‘Like You Wanna Do’.
Midnight Miles is from Montreal, Quebec. Armed with an electrifying show, soaring vocal harmonies, and a multitude of original songs, the band’s hell-bent on taking listeners for a wild ride full of twists and turns. Onstage, they’re a torrent of raw emotion, pouring their hearts and souls into every note! Midnight Miles are passionate about establishing lasting and meaningful connections with their audience. After every performance, they make a point to stick around and talk to as many people as possible in attendance.
Talking about this track, the band say:
“In writing ‘Like You Wanna Do’, we wanted to encapsulate the longing to feel unburdened. Many of us are just trying to be the truest versions of ourselves, and nobody should ever feel like they’re being judged or prosecuted for that. As we journey through life, we face many biases and rules that not only stifle our creative process but can also take a toll on our integrity – i.e. how to dress, how to act, what to think, what to believe and so on.”
‘Like You Wanna Do’ is a blues-based rock ’n’ roll tune about living in the moment and having the integrity and courage to do your own thing, your own way. In spite of any resistance you may encounter. The main character of the track is yearning to drop everything and take to the open road but never fails to make clear that it’s ultimately our choice to do so or not. The second part of the track goes totally off the rails into reckless abandon and expresses that following our heart’s path is the only real path.
The song is meant to inspire us to embrace our individuality. What better way than to project something that’s raw, honest, and unapologetic?
Midnight Miles are on Bandcamp, Facebook, Insta and Spotify.
The Dying Seconds released ‘Make Your Heart Beat Faster’ on 4th August.
‘Make Your Heart Beat’ is the second single from The Dying Seconds upcoming album, ‘Full of Ghosts’. The single explores a longing for a simpler time, when life was full of giddy highs and the rush of the new. It tells a tale of trying to leave the past behind and start a fresh, to remember what made you fall in love with something or someone in the first place.
The musical arrangement brings this to life with a synth-pop surface of bouncing bass and beats under which an uneasy ensemble of frayed and fractured fragments bubble up and unsettle things, building to an equal parts joyful and dizzying ending as these contrasting elements come together in a potent mix of sentiment and sediment.
The Dying Seconds are on Facebook, Insta and Twitter.
‘On the Run’ is from Permanent Loan’s new album ‘Old Dogs, New Tricks’.
Permanent Loan formed in 1978 at Birmingham University, PL. They gigged around the Midlands for 5 years before job relocation ended the band in 1982. Thirty five years later original members Jake (guitar), Chris (vocals), Al (bass) and Mat (guitar) reconvened with ‘new’ drummer Tony (since 1981!) to re-record their original album. They had so much fun they’ve been writing and recording new music ever since. Never too old to rock!
Permanent Loan are on Bandcamp.
On 4th August, Brenn! released ‘Valapriso’.
The 19-year-old Brennan Keller, known by fans as Brenn! was just a student at the University of Alabama writing and recording music in his bedroom. Then his début single, ‘4runner’, took on a life of its own across social media platforms. Now the artist, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama has shared his highly anticipated second single ‘Valapriso’.
Inspired by a friend who lived in Valparaiso, the track is an upbeat, folk-pop anthem for the ages. The song takes its inspiration from the small Indianan town of the same name.
Brenn! says, “Someone I loved was there. I was never able to say or spell the town right, but the song came out okay. Hopefully, that makes up for it.”
Brenn! has a lnk.to page, with all his down-load and social media links.
Mads Sayce released ‘Why You Cry’ on 4th August.
Mads Sayce is a solo artist with an eclectic genre of releases, from dance to indie-pop and jazz. A singer, violinist and dancer, she is a passionate producer. Mads incorporates dance and movement into her songs, self-choreographing the dance for her music videos.
Living in Glasgow and Dundee, she began song-writing at 12 years old. Then she released her first single when she was just 16. She has performed all over Scotland, representing Scotland nationally on violin.
Speaking about her latest release, Mads says, “Why You Cry talks about those that have “done me wrong”, hence the lyrics “I hope I’m why you cry”. Before I put my “shutter down” and walk away, I secretly hope that instead of being a brief moment to someone they reflect and cry inside. In the end I realise that that is too good to be true as lack of self-awareness means I am never why they cry”
Mads Sayce has a linktr.ee page with all her down-load and socials.
There is a recording of the show on MixCloud.
