On 13^th October, Tom A. Smith released ‘Fading Away’.

We’ve heard from Tom before – ‘Weirdo’ (Week 102, June 2023), ‘Little Bits’ (Week 87, February 2023), ‘Like You Do’ (Week 70, October 2022), ‘Never Good Enough’ (Week 58, August 2022) and ‘Dragonfly’ (Week 32, February 2022)

Produced by Hugo White, ‘Fading Away, could end up going down as Tom A. Smith’s most passionate and anthemic release to date. He is bringing back more of that heartfelt emotion he has been developing since he first emerged. So this new offering is a broad and shimmering return, brimming with euphoric textures throughout.

The new track also comes with a heart-warming video made up of footage of Tom shot over 10 years ago. Then he was the ripe old age of nine and inspired by watching Interstellar one too many times. Blast Beach in Durham is the location for the video. It’s where some scenes from Alien 3 were filmed, and delivers a charming angle to an already tantalising listen.

Speaking about the track, Tom said, “I wrote this song in a completely different way than I usually do and everything just flowed so beautifully that the demo and everything was completed in under 5 hours. I love space and think the whole thing had a classic vibe. The double meaning of the lyrics and everything works really well for me. To get Hugo White to produce it was fate I think. I think he’s a genius and it was such an enjoyable process. It stays really faithful to the original demo but as soon as he got his hands on it, it became massive.”

Sadly Sunday released ‘Icarus Wings’ on 13^th October.

Sadly Sunday are a Post Punk band from a suburb in Stockholm. They combine screeching guitars, haunting basslines and heavy percussions with catching melodies. Their new single ‘Icarus Wings’ is a melancholic yet blissful song from their début album ‘A Royal Appointment’. The album dropped on the 13th of October this year.

On 13^th October, Charlie Baker released ‘Late Night Talking’.

Following the summer success of ‘Romeo’ (Week 109, August 2023) and ‘Kissin’ (Week 102, June 2023) Charlie is back with his eighth single – and we have heard the previous seven! (‘Dancer’ (Week 73, November 2022) ‘You Want Me’ (Week 47, May 2022), ‘Thinking Twice’ (Week 39, March 2022), Didn’t Know’ (Week 31, January 2022) and his début single ‘Better With Me’ (Week 11, September 2021))

‘Late Night Talking’ is another track fuelled by a romantic interest. Forming a signature sound with his own unique knack for re-telling romantic endeavours in a totally relatable way.

As we move into the cosy season, with longer nights, Charlie’s latest single, ‘Late Night Talking’, embodies that romantic, sexy RnB tone as he narrates a night spent with that special someone. The lyrics tell of the pair in a trance of one another. They’re accompanied by the Latin guitar and harp sounds making this the ultimate late night tune.

Charlie, from Essex, has gone from strength to strength, with every release moving him further to the path of stardom. Rising social and streaming figures, upcoming gig slots and signing a publishing deal all prove Charlie is one to watch.

Pete ‘Phatdaddy’ Rudd has recently released ‘Bibliography’

Noted for his for his lock it in the pocket style of playing drums, making him the most-sampled drummer in hip-hop today, multi-instrumentalist Pete ‘Phatdaddy’ Rudd is also one of the most celebrated and sought after musicians amongst some of the music greats in soul and jazz. After rubbing shoulders with numerous prominent figures in music, Pete has decided to step out into his own lane to create his début album, called ‘New Thing’, released in March 2023.

Taken from the album, Pete presents his single, ‘Bibliography’. The title of the single perfectly reflects Pete’s long and varied music career as he intricately channels different elements to create a highly gleeful smooth jazz instrumental with heavenly topical tones, which immediately evoke a euphoric experience for the prospective listener.

Michael Morrow and the Culprits have recently released ‘Good Night Irene’.

We’ve previously heard ‘Cheery Blossom’ (Week 114, September 2023) by Michael Morrow and the Culprits. They’ve now followed it up with ‘Good Night Irene’, which is from their ‘Greater Than Gravity’ album.

Michael Morrow & the Culprits sound could be described as hard rock countryfied blues. An American rock band, hailing from Colorado, they deliver the goods when it comes to that bluesy hard rock. Plus there’s a touch of twang undoubtedly coming from that big red Gretsch guitar Michael is known for playing over the years. That tone matched with his voice is distinctive.

Mustafa released ‘Name of God’ on 17^th October.

Mustafa shares his new single ‘Name Of God’. It marks the singer’s first solo single since his critically-acclaimed, 2021, début  EP ‘When Smoke Rises’ and offers the first taste of his forthcoming début album. The song arrives alongside a beautiful video, directed by Mustafa. Itis an examination of his relationship with Islam, both how it has made and broken him, the fall of Sudan and as a memorial to Mustafa’s brother Mohamed, whose life was tragically taken this Summer. Mustafa’s music in the wake of ‘When Smoke Rises’ explores God, love, and violence, his full human experience and life in the hood and the mosque, marking a departure from the mourning of his début despite its continued presence in his life.

Speaking about ‘Name Of God’, Mustafa shares:

“I never felt like the Nubian prince my father sees in me through his tinted lens. I try their dance, their prayer- I always fall short.
And God’s name wasn’t always related to beauty for me, but to hopelessness, this Islam we share and Allah we call for while witnessing a constant violence that continues to bind us. I don’t think I ever felt completely Muslim among other Muslims. All these sub-beliefs like borders.
When my big brother was killed in what will always feel like yesterday, knowing the suspected murderer was someone he held as a friend, someone he prayed with- it led me to believe that maybe his love was his end? Maybe where there is no love, parting from love keeps us alive? Maybe ending in love is the only way to actually begin? I don’t know.
The only clear memory from the days of his death were my parents reciting in unison, “oh Allah, we accept his passing; we accept what you ordained.” I’m desperate to love God like them.
Our faith and our hearts are too often our demise- I know a field of young niggas dreaming that can testify to this. For better or worse we’ll uncover every bone beneath our hollow laughter, our confused affection; maybe it’s revealed in our final gasp for meaning.

Amerik has released ‘If I Told You’ which features Niall McDowell.

Amerik, the moniker of celebrated artist and producer Adam Booth, continues to captivate audiences with the release of his highly anticipated single, ‘If I Told You’. It features the rising Northern Irish talent, Niall McDowell and dropped on October 20th. This collaboration marks the grand finale of a trilogy of singles, showcasing the exceptional musical talent emanating from the vibrant Northern Irish music scene.

‘The Real Thing’, which we heard a few weeks ago (Week 115, September 2023) was the inaugural single from this project. It witnessed Amerik join forces with the burgeoning star Sasha Samara, celebrated for her enthralling vocals and emotive performances, leaving an indelible mark on audiences.

Wilfie Gilbert, a revered figure in the Northern Irish music scene, brought his captivating song writing and soulful vocals to ‘Nevermind’. Gilbert’s ability to weave compelling narratives through his music perfectly complemented Amerik’s production prowess, resulting in a collaboration that enthralled listeners.

Emerging Northern Irish talent Niall McDowell adds his distinctive sound to the trilogy’s final single, ‘If I Told You’. Together, their skills combine with their artistic vision, to deliver a ground-breaking track. It will resonate deeply with audiences.

‘Like Never Before’ is from Project Grand Slam’s ‘The Singles Project’ EP.

Robert Miller, the leader, bassist and composer for Project Grand Slam (PGS), the acclaimed jazz, rock fusion band, announces that PGS will be releasing a new EP. Called ‘The Singles Project’ it consists of five new tracks written and sung by Robert. The EP showcases the variety in Robert’s music, as he invokes the ups and downs of life with these songs.

Robert comments, “The opening tracks ‘Saturday Morning’ and ‘Like Never Before’ are intentional polar opposites. The first is a happy, upbeat, positive song which I wrote as a relief from all the troubles in the world. ‘Like Never Before’ brings us back to reality. It’s particularly timely given the situation in the Middle East and the increased level of hostility, divisiveness and lack of civility and compassion throughout the world.”

Gypsy Pistoleros released ‘Like Tears in the Rain’ on 20^th October.

Gypsy Pistoleros release their new single, ‘Tears in the Rain’, on Friday October 20th, from the forthcoming album ‘Duende a Go Go Loco’. That will follow on November 3rd, via Earache Records.

The new album captures an edgier, punkier, and heavier side of the band, whilst retaining the Flamenco Rumba heart and fully embracing their fiery flamenco/rumba passion, staying true to their distinctive crossover of punk rock ‘n’ roll leanings!

About the single, Gypsy Lee Pistolero says, “I’ve always been in awe of the ‘Tears in Rain’ scene in the original ‘Bladerunner’ film, when dying replicant Roy Batty, played by Rutger Hauer, delivers what is known as the ‘Tears in the Rain’ Monologue. A spikey juggernaut of a sort of ballady punk fuelled rock wall of sound.
“I’ve seen things, you people wouldn’t believe, Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion … I’ve watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate … All those moments, will be lost in time like tears in rain”
I just thought how that scene kind of resonates with all that’s going on in the world today, and us destroying everything and ourselves. The Replicants knew the futility of it all! I just wanted to capture that moment! The resignation, regret. The sadness!”

Dancia released ‘October’ on October 20^th.

Scottish band, Danica released their new single, ‘October’, on 20^th October.  The song writing duo, and brothers, David & Lewis Morrison are from the Isle of Lewis but are now based in Glasgow.

The brothers say, “After writing songs since our teens and a couple of years playing in bands we decided to start officially releasing our music last year. The only thing we are interested in is writing hits!”

Marshall Potts has recently released ‘Save the Day’.

Marshall Potts is a singer and songwriter from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, who has a lifetime of experience in music. His crossover writing style has found acceptance in the Americana, country rock, and rock formats.

Marshall not only writes inspiring music and lyrics, but he also mixes in ringing, interwoven guitar lines and buoyant arena-rock beats. Combine Potts’ powerful, yet tender insistent vocals that share the experience of saving himself deliver a universal message of positivity and optimism. His music is about moving beyond your past, taking back your power, embracing the moment, and living in the here and now.

Speaking about his latest single, Marshall says, “I wrote ‘Save the Day’ in mid-August 2023 this summer, while I was tracking a guitar on another song. The riff came, made me feel something so I stopped and started a new session. It’s one of those songs that came in fast which for me is always a good thing.
